Garden Work Days

5/25/2019

It's been cold and clammy, wet and rainy, but at last it's looking like planting weather! We have two garden work days coming up, and all are welcome!
Tasks include moving 3 yards of light compost and raking the beds, planting veggie seedlings and seeds, and planting herbs and flowers. Bring work gloves if you have them; tools and extra gloves will be on site, too.
WORKDAY ONE (Weather Permitting)
Wednesday, May 29th 3:00-6:00   CANCELLED  (conditions too wet to plant)
WORKDAY TWO (Tentative, weather permitting)
Saturday, June 1st 10:00-11:30  (Fingers crossed, conditions will be ok!)

Save the Date: June 1st 2019

The Scarborough Garden Club's Plant Sale occurs at the Historic Hunnewell House (Corner of Black Point and Winnocks Neck Road, one-half mile down from Oak Hill) on Saturday June 1st. The event is held rain or shine, from 8am-11am. (The sale starts promptly at 8 and not before.) You'll find a huge selection of plants each year with some of the traditional perennials as well as a selection of uncommon perennials, some annuals, herbs, shrubs, you never know what you may find. Knowledgeable garden club members will assist you with your plant selections and give you care instructions and help you to your car with your purchases.
Proceeds benefit the club's community projects including: Wreaths for Christmas in various public buildings in Scarborough, our Green Thumb Awards Contest, Scarborough Community Garden, Project GRACE, University of Maine 4H Summer Camp at Bryant Pond, flower arrangements made once a month and delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients in Scarborough, and other memorial gifts.

Big Move for Hillcrest Garden

5/1/2019

To make room for the expanded Community Center at Hillcrest, the garden had to move... and it's in a great spot now with wider paths between the beds which have new cedar planks, lots of soil and compost, and barrels out front with flowers to encourage pollinators to visit. There are chairs and benches to encourage neighbors to stop and visit, too. We are grateful to the DeFosses family and State Manufactured Homes for their generous support.
